Department of Wood & Paper Science and Technology

Wood and Paper Science and Technology is a branch of science and technology in which students will learn about wood formation in trees and its affecting factors; wood structure, identification and grading; wood trading and business management; physical, mechanical and chemical characteristics of wood; manufacturing and modification of wood-based products; and production of paper and other cellulosic products. The rationale of this department is to train and educate technicians, entrepreneurs, and managers for the wood and paper industry in the country. In addition, solving industrial problems, enhancing products quality, identification and practice of new technologies especially nanotechnology are other goals of this department. Additionally, to guarantee sustainable materials and energy, lignocellulosic-based biomass researches (biorefinery) are focused. Finally, to reduce the risk of earthquakes, it is aimed to produce and develop wood constructions.
